Thank You card

Just a simple Thank You card for a friend... The sentiment was from SVGcuts.com, which I ran through my xyron and then glittered using Martha Stewarts fine glitter. I then cut out the blackout/shadow of the sentiment so that it didn't disappear into the background. The background paper is from K&Co.'s "handmade" stack.  I chalk inked around each layer and the sentiment background. Simple grosgrain ribbon and 3 matching buttons finish it off. :)

My Valentine Topiary

My favorite holiday decorations are most certainly Valentine's Day ones!  The pink, red and white during the dreary winter months always cheers me up!  But, I don't have very many in my home.  I've decided to change that this year :)  I love topiaries and decided to make a couple for my mantle. I headed to the local Dollar Tree and found all the supplies I needed!  The little pots are actually Easter "trees" that I pulled the tree part out of, stripped them down to the dowel and then covered the dowel with sparkly red ribbon using my glue gun.  Then, using a styrofoam ball, I hot glued the dowel into the bottom of the ball.  The "roses" are actually SOAP petals!!  I didn't realize that until I brought them home, but they appear to be paper flowers that were dipped in rose scented glycerin (soap wax).  PERFECT!  I hot glued each bud to the ball.  I thought I had enough roses to do two topiaries, but alas, 3 boxes of roses only filled one topiary! :(  I'll have to go tomorrow and get some more!  I finally hot glued a valentine ribbon around the pot and tied a bow.  I am so happy with the way this turned out!  It was a total of $4 in materials for the one topiary- not bad!

Mongrammed / Personalized Lap Desks!! Wow! What a great find!!

Click on the photos for a larger view

I went "hunting" at Tuesday Morning after dropping off the kids at school... there was  a 2 hour delay due to snow/ice.. whatever that was.  When I say hunting, I mean HUNTING!  Our Tuesday Morning is just a disaster zone.  I go to find interesting scrapbook stuff to embellish my cards.  The first time I went I hit the jackpot, but honestly, there hasn't been anything wonderful ever since... until TODAY!   What I found wasn't card making supplies, they were LAP DESKS!  They have colorful thick acrlyic tops and the bottoms are velcroed on, with a cover that can be unzippered and washed!  They were only $10 each... so I bought 3 for my 3 girls as Valentine's gifts after I put their names on them with vinyl. (My husband is always yelling at our 14 year old not to leave her laptop on her comforter!  Now, she won't.. I hope.) But, now that I'm thinking about it, I might save the last one to personalize for the 16 year old who is having her sweet 16 soon!  Really, my 4 year old doesn't need a lap desk just yet ;)  OR, maybe I should go back and buy them OUT!!  I used the Ravie font on SCAL to cut out their names on the cricut.  Quick and Easy Peasy!

Sweet 16 Birthday Gatefold Card

Another one of my daughter's friends is turning 16!  Mine still has almost 2 more years to go... and she's already planning her wannabe party!!  I really love this friend of hers and thoroughly enjoyed making her card!  I used The Paper Studio's "Poteeka Souffle" stack that I bought at Hobby Lobby a couple of months ago. I adore the papers in this stack!  They are fun, modern, and whimsical prints and colors.  I ran the chipboard numbers through my xyron and then glittered them. The bubble was cut using the basic shapes library on SCAL, and then I shadowed the bubble at .5 and cut it again to get the green background bubble.  Actually, I believe it's a cloud, as it was under the "weather" category of basic shapes. I found the sentiment online- cute:)

CHRISTmas Thank You Cards

Time to write the Thank Yous for all the wonderful gifts we received.  Since I bombed and didn't make all my Christmas cards by hand this year as I had planned (Walmart Photo to the rescue!), I thought I could at least make the thank you notes.  I wanted a simple cut that would be quick to put together since I was making a small bunch of them at one time.  The card measures 4" x 5 1/2".  I found the tree at SVGcuts.com- it was one of the Christmas card trees.  Both the background paper and the printed tree paper came from DCWV's Christmas Stack.  I used the cuttlebug's lace embossing folder for the light green tree parts- which I was so happy that it matched the lacey damask print on the dark green Christmas paper!!  I love it when things come together like that!  I bought a ton of red glittery ribbon from someone on ebay and have used it for curly hair bows, and now I added it to this card. I ran my atg gun down it, and then cut it off every 5 1/2 inches and placed it about an inch from the side of the card.  I embellished with some pearls from the dollar section at Michael's.  Took me about an hour to do 6 of them, but that's with the 4 year old and the dog in the room!!
