Another Sweet 16 Card

My daughter has another 2 friends turning 16 this week, with the first birthday being tomorrow!  Short notice means shortcut card.  Hopefully I will have more time later in the week for the other card!!

The patterened paper on this card is from a new DCWV "The Carnival" stack and I love EVERY piece of paper in the entire pad!!  The colors and patterns are awesome for card making... and I will defnitely use it for the 2nd card I need to make.

Porthole card made with free svg from svgcuts.com

Mary at SVGcuts.com has a cute porthole svg available for free, and I decided to turn it into a card for my dad.  He's a boater :)  I used Basic Grey's Granola stack for the brown patterned papers and vellum for the "water".  I resized all the elements to 5.5".  The panfish are also free files from SVGcuts.com.  I used glitter glue for their fins for some sparkle.  The bubbles are dots of glossy accents- a great tip from Sharalyn.  I used gray pearls as the screwheads.

Free Folding Chevron SCUT file

Chevrons are so popular in crafts and decorating lately! I was hunting for a chevron scut/svg file to use in my card making with no luck, I decided to try and make my own folding chevron file... and I succeeded! :) This shape can be shortened, lengthened as needed. Here's the link to the ChevronScut file.
This is the file after it's cut.
To fold, start in the center of the strip, folding each corner up to the center.

Continue down the strip, making triangles.
When the first side is done, start making triangles on the other side.
Here is the finished folded strip.  I used my bone folder to help make nice crisp folds.

Cascading Card

Today I learned how to do a cascading card from Frenchie at Stamp and Scrap with Frenchie!  It really is quite simple and she's very clear in her directions. You start with an 8" by 12" piece of paper and end up with the base of the accordian style card.  Then, you embellish it however you please!  I chose hearts that I cut using SCAL and my cricut.  A little white gel pen, and a few bits of bling, a bow, and I was done! I put my "happy birthday" quote on a wobble- sure to be a hit with the 6 year old recipient!
